六曲屏風　平家物語絵巻【Folding screen The Tale of the Heike】　[k0595]

江戸後期の絵巻物を表装した六曲の屏風。

右上は木曽軍との戦いに向かう義経軍の家臣による宇治川の先陣争い。源頼朝から名馬を賜った佐々木高綱と梶原景季2人が先陣を争い宇治川へ駆り出す場面から始まり、左下には那須与一が平家軍の船上に掲げた扇を射落とす有名な場面が描かれています。

画像ではわかりづらいのですが、描かれた人物の顔は1cm程の大きさが多く、1ｍｍ以下の筆さばきや躍動感のある描きこみは目で追わずにいられません。

The upper right panel depicts the battle for the vanguard position on the Uji River between the vassals of Yoshitsune's army as they head into battle against the Kiso army. The scene begins with Sasaki Takatsuna and Kajihara Kagezumi, who had been gifted fine horses by Minamoto no Yoritomo, competing for the vanguard position and rushing toward the Uji River. The lower left panel depicts the famous anecdote of Nasu no Yoichi shooting down the fan held aloft on the Heike army's ship.

It's hard to tell from the image, but many of the faces of the people depicted are about 1cm in size, and you can't help but follow the brushstrokes, which are less than 1mm in size, and the dynamic detail.
