A compact small chest from the Yonezawa region of Yamagata Prefecture, featuring distinctive Sakuramaru (cherry blossom) lock plates.
Retaining the structural proportions of a full-size clothing chest, this piece is scaled down to a compact, highly versatile size ideal for organizing small accessories.
The top and side panels are crafted from cedar, while the front showcases fine paulownia wood. After carefully cleaning away the patina of time, the piece has been finished with natural beeswax, allowing the warm, tactile quality of the bare wood to shine through.
Unlike traditional lacquered chests, this unlacquered finish highlights the natural grain and texture of the wood, creating a striking contrast with the refined antique hardware.
