The striking contrast between the distinctive black lacquer of the Shonai region on the front and the deep red that runs all the way to the back gives this small chest of drawers a sense of Japanese elegance. The bottom drawer is decorated with auspicious pine, plum, and turtle designs, all crafted using hammered techniques.
